Electrical Safety

Contract Cleaning vs Cleaning Yourself 

Everyday there are workers who suffer some type of shock, but do not seek or require treatment for their injuries. Because of this, it is difficult to fully track the occurrence of electrical shock in the workplace.

Electrical Safety

• Maintain at least a 10-foot distance from 50kV overhead powerlines, add more distance as the voltage increases. Also avoid the poles themselves to avoid bringing lines to the ground.
• Inspect all cords for damaged insulation or missing ground prongs. If either of these conditions exist get them fixed by a professional or remove them from use.

• Never work on energized equipment. Always follow proper lock and tag out procedures before performing electrical work. Test the power after locking and tagging out to ensure there is no power being fed to what you are working on.

Currently, many small businesses find that in order to save money they will share the cleaning between the staff.

It seems that a small business with an office usually consist of a few desks, washroom, small kitchen and reception so on the face of it does not require much attention.

However, at AM Retail Services we clearly understand that the office has desks, chairs, bins, computers, drawers, units, skirting’s, carpet, phones, switches, extinguishers, windows, windowsills, lights. Additionally, the kitchen has hard floor, units, work tops, microwave, fridge, toaster (with crumbs), bin; and the washroom has the toilet bowl, hard floor, sink, taps, pipes, door and etc.

OH&S Updates

The next quarterly OHS meeting will be held on the 11th of August 2020 using Microsoft Teams run by Louie with AM Retail managers and employee representatives. There were no lost time injuries in July and no environmental incidents and no fines from regulators.
